«« Get Up, Anima Sola

65 x 41,  oil on canvas, 2009        $1,800.00

The Anima Sola is a depiction of  a suffering woman in chains amidst the barred prison doors and flames of Purgatory, the place where sinners go while awaiting final judgement.

Traditionally the Anima Sola looks penitent and reverent as she lifts her arms, trailing broken chains, to heaven.  The ambiguous nature of this image, of suffering and release from that suffering, leads to Anima Sola being petitioned for blessings and intercession in hastening the conclusion of a purgatorial sentence for a loved one or implored for aid in prayers designed to send an enemy or ex-lover to either a literal or figurative Purgatory of suffering.
